When you use EmberReads, we collect the following information:

Account Information

Email address — when you sign up with email or Google
Display name — chosen by you during signup
Google profile data — name and email when you sign in with Google (we do not access your contacts, calendar, or other Google data)

Reading Data

Spice ratings — your heat level ratings for books
Trope tags — tropes you tag on books
Content warning flags — warnings you flag on books
TBR list — books you save to your reading list
Imported data — if you upload a Goodreads CSV, we import book titles, authors, and shelf information

Automatically Collected

Usage data — pages visited, features used (via Vercel Analytics, if enabled)
Device information — browser type, screen size (for responsive design)

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide and improve EmberReads
To personalize book recommendations based on your ratings and preferences
To display community-aggregated ratings, trope tags, and content warnings
To send you updates about EmberReads (only if you joined the waitlist or opted in)
To respond to your support requests

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

Supabase — our database and authentication provider (stores your account and reading data)
Vercel — our hosting provider (serves the website)
Google — if you use Google Sign-In (authentication only)
Open Library — we fetch book metadata (no personal data is sent)

4. Community Data

Your spice ratings, trope tags, and content warning flags are aggregated anonymously and displayed as community data. Other users see the total count and average — they cannot see which specific user submitted a rating or tag.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days. Anonymized community contributions (aggregated ratings) may be retained.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your personal data
Correct inaccurate data
Delete your account and associated data
Export your reading data
Opt out of marketing communications

7. Children's Privacy

EmberReads is not intended for users under 13 years of age. Some content on the platform includes mature themes. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication (via Supabase Auth), and Row Level Security on our database to protect your data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the website. Continued use of EmberReads after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
